KMM Orthopedic Foam Quality Laboratory

At the beginning of 2017, our company expanded its production capabilities by putting into operation a workshop for the production of orthopedic foam. Production of orthopedic foam is a complicated chemical and technological process. One of the main requirements for its successful implementation is the presence of state-of-the-art quality laboratory, has beed established at KMM.

The main task of the laboratory is to check orthopedic foam before manufacturing mattresses and pillows. Thanks to high-tech equipment of foreign production, the properties of orthopedic foam are determined by key indicators. This provides a 100% guarantee of material quality.

Material durability test

The AР-tester is used for this purpose. The description of the method: the test sample is compressed by 50% of its height 250,000 times (one click per second) for three days. After the test, the loss factor of height and rigidity of the sample shall be measured. Through research, the load index that a material can withstand during use is precisely determined.

Material residual deformation test

The TNG-tester is used for the research.
The description of the method: a sample of the material to be tested is clamped between two plates at 50% of the height and left for 72 hours. Then the height loss is measured and the residual deformation indicator is calculated in %. Residual deformation demonstrates the useful life of an orthopedic foam product, as the testing process simulates long-term static loading while lying on a mattress.

Material elasticity test 

The RB-tester is used for verification.
Due to this device the elastic properties of the material shall be determined. The higher the elasticity index, the greater the level of comfort of the orthopedic mattress and pillow in which the researched material will be used.

Material elongation and breaking strength test

The research is carried out using a universal measuring machine and specially manufactured samples of orthopedic foam of a certain shape.
Measured values determine the strength of orthopedic foam, which is important for determining its possible further use in finished products.

Material comfort test

This research is also carried out using a universal machine. Due to software, the equipment displays the maximum information about the tested type of orthopedic foam, as the material resistance is measured during loading and unloading. This allows you to calculate the coefficient of longevity of the orthopedic foam and its comfort properties.
